VISION
By the year 2050, 50% of the primary energy consumed in Europe will be electrical energy, while the other 50% will remain energy in molecular form. This latter part will be divided into 50% biomethane and 50% biohydrogen. Biomethane will be produced by anaerobic digestion, methanation of green CO2 with biohydrogen, and methanation of syngas derived from biomass gasification. In Europe, the total natural gas consumption, which currently amounts to 450 billion m³, will be replaced by renewable gas, primarily by biomethane and biohydrogen, utilizing all available biomass for energy purposes, including by-products and organic waste from agriculture, forestry, industry and households. The green CO2 produced by these processes will replace all the fossil CO2 used throughout Europe, while the residual CO2 will be converted with biohydrogen into so-called e-NG, the biomethane from methanation. By-products such as digestate from fermentation and biochar from gasification will replace all fossil fertilizers sold in Europe to achieve a total circular economy of agriculture and industry.
MISSION
BiHcon develops new technologies in the field of anaerobic digestion and biomass gasification, which are implemented in new projects that BiHcon builds both nationally and internationally.
Renewable gases are produced via anaerobic digestion in the form of biomethane, via gasification to produce biohydrogen, and through Power-to-Gas and Power-to-X technologies to produce biomethane and biohydrogen using surplus renewable electricity by photovoltaic and wind power plants using green CO2, thus also acting as Balance of Plant (BOP).
Other end products of these processes include renewable fertilizers such as digestate from anaerobic digestion and biochar from biomass gasification that will replace all fossil fertilizers currently marketed in Europe.
