Projects
We’ve been lucky to have been a part of some ground-breaking builds and we’re proud of what we’ve accomplished. See a few of the things we’ve built.
Canella Giancarlo Plant (Revamping)
BiHcon has completed the full revamping of the Canella Giancarlo plant in the province of Rovigo, thoroughly renewing both infrastructure and technology to ensure long-term efficiency and sustainability.
The plant has been equipped with:
- BiHcon technology with Tool Box Pro installed in every anaerobic digestion tank
- New high-efficiency mixing systems
- Latest-generation gas storage membranes
- Completely renewed piping system
- Integrated and intelligent control and management system
The plant is now ready to begin a new operational phase, delivering optimized performance for at least the next 20 years.
Location:
Porto Tolle (RO), Italy
Completion Year:
2025
Type of Intervention:
Full revamping
Expected Output:
Over 2,137,500 Sm³/year of biomethane
Input Feedstock:
Approx. 39,000 tons/year of agricultural by-products
Fermentation Volume:
>17,000 m³
GROTTOLE PLANT (MT)
Grottole plant (MT) is designed for the sustainable production of biomethane through mesophilic anaerobic digestion using organic feedstocks of agricultural and livestock origin. With a gross production capacity of 630 Sm³/h, the plant injects approximately 500 Sm³/h into the national gas grid. The remaining volume powers a 635 kWel CHP unit for on-site electrical and thermal needs. The digestate—around 43,650 tons/year—is separated and reused as a natural fertilizer. A 426 kWp photovoltaic system contributes to the plant’s overall energy efficiency.
Type: Biomethane production from agricultural and livestock biomass
Technology: Anaerobic digestion – mesophilic fermentation
Gross production capacity: 630 Sm³/h
Gas injection into the grid: 500 Sm³/h (≈ 4,000,000 Sm³/year)
Self-consumption: 130 Sm³/h via 635 kWel CHP unit
Feedstock input: 48,500 tons/year
Digestate output: 43,650 tons/year (solid and liquid fractions)
Fermentation volume: 22,000 m³ (2 main digesters + post-digestion/separation)
Photovoltaic system: 426 kWp
Digestate recovery: Agronomic reuse in accordance with Decree No. 5046/2016
PATERNÒ PLANT (CT)
Paternò plant (CT) is designed for biomethane production via mesophilic anaerobic digestion, using agricultural and livestock biomass. With a gross production capacity of 630 Sm³/h, the plant injects around 500 Sm³/h into the national gas grid, while the remaining 130 Sm³/h powers a 635 kWel CHP unit for self-consumption. Annually, the plant processes approximately 68,500 tons of organic feedstocks and produces 61,650 tons of digestate, which is separated into solid and liquid fractions and used for agronomic purposes. The system includes two main digesters and post-digestion and separation sections, with a total fermentation volume of 22,000 m³.
